Healthy “Candy” Apples

I’m always looking for healthy snack alternatives. I try to give my son protein along with his fruit. Here’s a perfect combination! Candy Apples 2My toddler’s current obsession is being Mr. Independent so I let him dip his own apples.  The crimson gold miniature apples I found at the store is the perfect size (see the photo on the right for size comparison).

We use also use silicone divided plates so he doesn’t have 3 separate bowls to throw on the ground! They’re non-toxic and we use them daily.

Tip: If you can’t find the small apples you can use a melon roller and just scoop small pieces out.  PLEASE be very mindful of your child’s age as it may be a choking hazard. You can also cut it up into thin circular chips for younger kids.

Ingredients:

  • Apples
  • Popsicle sticks or skewers
  • Peanut butter
  • crushed almonds

Procedure:

  1. Wash apples and poke a stick or skewer into the apple
  2. Dip in peanut butter manually or use a butter knife
  3. Dip in almonds
  4. Enjoy!
